Mangala Mantra

Last week we learned a mantra used for the opening of Ashtanga Yoga practice. Today we will learn the mangala mantra. The Sanskrit word mangala means ‘auspicious’, and this mantra is of wishes that everything in your day and in your life goes perfectly well.
It is a wonderful way of starting our day with an opening mantra to honore our teachers, ourselves and our spiritual practice, followed by yoga, and concluding with this mantra!

The mantra is :
SWASTI-PRAJA BHYAHA
PARI PALA YANTAM
Let prosperity be glorified.

NYA-YENA MARGENA
MAHIM MAHI SHAHA
Let the world be ruled with law and justice.

GO-BRAHMANE-BHYAHA
SHUBAMASTU NITYAM
Let holiness and learning be protected.

LOKA SAMASTA SUKINO BHAVANTU
May all beings everywhere be happy.

OM SHANTI, SHANTI, SHANTIHI
Peace, peace, peace

Patanjali Mantra

Today’s mantra is a mantra dedicated to Patanjali, a disciple of Lord Shiva that compilated his yoga teachings on a scripture know as the Yoga Sutras (teachings or lessons of yoga) He is honored n this mantra and this is used as the opening mantra for a branch of yoga practice known as Ashtanga Yoga. You can  use this mantra to honor your teachers, yourself and your own practice for any type of yoga practice.
The mantra is :

VANDE GURUNAM CHARANARA VINDE
SANDARISHITA SWATMA SHUKHAVA BODHE
I bow to the lotus feet of our great teachers,
who uncover our true self and awaken happiness

NIH-SREYASE JNYAGALIKHA YAMANE
SAMSARA HALA HALA MOHA SHANTIYEI
Like a Shaman in the Jungle he brings total complete well-being
He can even heal the most awful poison of conditioning and illusion.

ABAHU PURUSHAKARAM
SHANKRA CHAKRASI DHARINAM
The upper body of human shape, carrying a mussel horn (original tone), a discus (infinity) and a sword (power of differentiation)

SAHASRARA SHIRASAM SHWETAM
PRANAMAMI PATANJALIM
having 1000 bright heads,
I bow to Patanjali.

Long Shiva Mantra

Today’s mantra is a mantra to Lord Shiva, the Distroyer in the masculine Trinity of the Hindu Pantheon. He is consciousness and bliss.
This particular mantra was made popular by a modern branch of youga known as Anusara yoga, for they adopted this mantra as ther introductory mantrafor their clases.

The mantra is :
OM NAMAH SHIVAYA GURAVE
SATCHIDANANDA MURTAYE
NISHPRAPANCHAYA SHANTAYA
NIRALAMBAYA TEJASE

I offer myself to the Light, the Auspicious One,
Who is the True Teacher within and without,
Who assumes the forms of Reality, Consciousness and Bliss,
Who is never absent and is full of peace,
Independent in existence, the vital essence of illumination.

Concluding Mantras

Today we will learn a compilation of mantras used to conclude a ceremony, a sadhana or discipline, a task or Project, or simply our day.
I chant it the way my teacher Namadeva Acharya taught me, with the same melody, which I find very beautiful. Although it is long and new to learn, the important thing is that you learn how to read them, then, with practice, you will learn them. I promise it is not as hard at it may seem at first.
These mantras are also chanted as gratitud mantras,

The mantras are:
TWAMEVA MATA CHAPITA TWAMEVA
You are the father and mother
TWAMEVA BANDHU-SCHA-SAKAH TWAMEVA
You are the relative and friend
TWAMEVA VIDYA DRAVINAM TWAMEVA
You are wisdom and wealth
TWAMEVA SARVAM MAMA DEVA DEVA
You are everything, O God Supreme

KAYENA VACHA MANA-SENDRI-AIRVA
Everything which I may have
BHUDYATMA-NAVA PRIKRITI SWABHAVAT
done through word or dead
KAROMI YAD YET SAKALAM PARASMAI
Through habit or karma
NARAYANA-YE-TI SAMARPAYAMI
I offer to you, Lord of all forms (Narayana)

OM ASATOMA SAD-GAMAYA
Lead us from unreality to reality
TAMASOMA JYOTHIR-GAMAYA
From darknes to light
MRIT-YORMA AMRITAM-GAMAYA
From death to immortality

OM SHANTIHI, SHANTIHI, SHANTIHI
Om peace, peace, peace

LOKA SAMASTA SUKINO BHAVANTU
Let all the beings in all realms be happy
