The Maha Mrityunjaya with ‘Bijas’

We have learned in this cannel the most powerful Shiva mantra, the Maha Mrityunjaya, and I spoke about the story of Markandaya, the saint-like boy destin to die before his 16th birthday and how chanting this mantra saved him with an unexpected turn of events.

Today we will learn the Maha Mrityunjaya with bijas or seed sounds at the begining and end of the mantra, in a mirror fashion. The first bija is shiva’s own seed sound, Haum, followed by more bijas and the first part of the gayatri mantra. At the end of the maha mrityimjaya, the same words are placed in the reverse order.

This mantra is used as an advanced discipline to tap the great healing powers of Lord Shiva.

The mantra is :

oM HAUM OM JOOM SWAHA / OM BHUR BHUVAHA SWAHA
om trayAmbakam yajamahe, sugandhim pushti vardanam
urvar ukamiva bandhanam, mrityor mukshiya mamritat
SWAHA BHUVAHA BHUR OM / SAHAH JOOM HAUM OM
